Off-Duty Kern County Sheriff’s Sergeant Thwarts Robbery in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – Off-Duty Kern County Sheriff’s Sergeant, Ryan Dunbier was driving on Verdugo Lane, Tuesday, March 26th, at about 6:45 pm, when he saw the store clerk from the Verdugo Market, fighting with 23 year old Orlando Gracia.

Gracia was attemting to steal alcohol from the market.

Sgt. Dunbier stopped to assist as another citizen jumped in to assist deputy.

After a short foot chase, Sergeant Dunbier and the good samaritan were able to tackle the suspect and hold him until Bakersfield Police officers arrived.

Gracia resisted arrest and ripped Sergeant Dunbier’s shirt.

Shortly after Sgt. Dunbier took Gracia into custody, Bakersfield Police officers arrived and transported and booked Gracia into the jail for PC 211, robbery, and PC 69, resisting an executive officer.
