Redding, CA – Firefighters had a productive shift on the fire line today. The east and southern portions of the fire continued to hold, and crews patrolled and mopped up hotspots along the fire’s edge. As the inversion layer lifted earlier today, fire activity increased on the north and west flanks of the fire. The fire was most active on the northwest side near Tombstone. Aircraft dropped fire retardant west of Tombstone Ridge to the slow the fire’s growth. Crews conducted firing operations to limit the fire’s spread to the west, increasing the likelihood that the fire will stay within established control lines.

Tonight, crews will continue firing operations into the evening as weather conditions permit. They will hold, strengthen, and monitor firelines around the fire perimeter.

A community meeting will be held on Thursday, August 30 at 6:00 P.M. at the Dunsmuir Community Center located at 4835 Dunsmuir Avenue in Dunsmuir, California.
