Forest Service Delays Reopening Black Gulch South Dispersed Camping Area

Kernville, CA – The Kern River District of the Sequoia National Forest will continue the seasonal closure for the Black Gulch South dispersed camping area on the Lower Kern River for the foreseeable future.

Typically open from May to September, Black Gulch South is a popular and heavily used area. The District realizes this extended closure may be an inconvenience to the public and hopes to open it as soon as staffing allows.

Camping on the Lower Kern River is available at Sandy Flat Campground, just downstream from Black Gulch South. Additional camping opportunities exist on the Upper Kern River and around Isabella Lake.

Campfire Permits are required for campfires, barbeques, and camp stoves. Free campfire permits are available online at http://www.preventwildfireca.org or at your local Ranger Station.
